Secondary schools’ head teachers in Machakos County have chosen officials to lead them in the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESHA) as a warning was issued that long serving Principals would have to move to new stations.

Machakos County TSC Director Mr Stephen O. Mudho said some of the principals will be transferred in a bid to improve academic performance .
He said the move is intended to get rid of primary and secondary heads who have stayed in some stations with no great impact in performance while others have had alleged fishy deals. “Teachers’ transfer exercise was considered beneficial if it considered the welfare of the school and the teacher and vice versa” he said
Accompanied by County Director of Education Mr Wilfred Gaichu,Mudho said the head teachers should readily accept transfers, replace the transferred teachers’ in time and consider appropriate timing for transfers.
Said Mudho “Some of the heads are under-performing while there are those who are in schools where they can’t handle either because the enrollment is too high and their skills less or they have failed to manage the system”. The remarks come as parents and other stakeholders across the board in the County are demanding that the ministry of education carries thorough financial audit for their money in the schools.
Parents say some secondary schools are faced with huge financial deficit and cannot properly manage affairs due to either mismanagement, outright theft of underfunding.
Parents demand a complete mass transfer of principals in the district by ministry of education.The elections were attended by outgoing Eastern KESHA chairman Onesmus Mulinge of Makueni Boys High school.
The elections, held at Machakos Social Hall, saw the election of Masii Boys High School principal Francis Muthusi elected as chairman with 130 votes against his Kyanguli Secondary counterpart Sylvester Wambua who polled 90 votes.
Controversial head of General Mulinge Secondary School in Kathiani Mr Joseph Kioko of was elected unopposed as the vice-chairman while Pauline Musembi of Father Hiran secondary school elected as the secretary. Felix Nthama of Kamanzi secondary school was elected as the treasurer.
Other elected are Geoffrey Munyao (Vice-secretary),Dinnah Mutua of Kathiani Girls High school (Vice-treasurer) while Muindi Mbingu secondary school head Michael Mutua was elected unopposed as the Joint Activities (JA) chairman.
Daniel Munguti of Ngoleni secondary (J.A secretary),Muli Kangangi (J.A treasurer),Antony Kitungi from St. Augustine secondary (organizing secretary) and Grace Kenya Women representative.Addressing heads after the peaceful elections, the new KESHA boss said principals have an essential role to play in improving the school’s performance, but that role cannot be individual.
Muthusi emphasized on unity and hard work among members adding that education should be taken seriously so that they come up with a better society that everyone will be proud of.
“While high-quality initial training, an individual ethical code and professional standards are important factors, they are not enough, particularly in a changing system, to guarantee achievement of the best possible results, individually by students and collectively by schools” Muthusi told the gathering.
Muthusi said there is need for teachers to work together and with other actors connected with the schools to achieve shared objectives implies at once new roles for the management teams
