5 theft suspects
charged in Kitui

THE Wife of a Kitui County Minister is
among five businesspeople charged with stealing nearly Sh 28m from the County. 
Faith Kithele Mulatya,36, also a gospel
singer, Sarah Wangui Kamau, 39, Mary Waithera Gikungu, 49, and Margaret Musee,
36,
 and Alex Kioko are accused of
hacking the county’s accounts at various banks between March and December last
year, stealing
  Sh 27.8m.

Faith is the wife of Kitui County
Environment Executive George Mulatya. 
They
allegedly stole Sh4 million to Sh6 million at various intervals from the county’s
recurrent expenditure account at the Central Bank of Kenya, Nairobi a manner
that is yet to be disclosed.
They appeared before Kitui Principal
Magistrate Esther Boke and denied the charge. The charge was also consolidated
with another of attempting to defraud the county between March and October last
year by pretending that they would supply stationery.
Mr Joseph Mutia is
prosecuting the matter whileMr Peter Mutisya is representing Ms Kithele. The
rest are represented by lawyer Joseph Muinde
They were released on Sh 4
million bond each with a surety of a similar amount.The case will be  heard on February 10.

Among those listed to
testify is the Kitui County CID director Shem Nyamboki.
