In a significant law enforcement operation, police in Machakos County have seized a substantial quantity of bhang valued at Ksh. 6 million.

County Commissioner Josephine Ouko views the impounded bhang and vehicle with  multiple number plates

The contraband was discovered in a Toyota Wish vehicle, which was transporting the drugs from Migori to Mbooni Sub County in Makueni County.

The driver, identified as James Otieno Odero, allegedly employed a deceptive tactic by using six different number plates to evade detection at traffic checkpoints. However, his attempts to avoid law enforcement were thwarted in the early hours of the morning, culminating in his arrest.

During a press briefing, Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko issued a strong warning to those involved in narcotics trafficking. She underscored the commitment of law enforcement to apply the full extent of the law against offenders. Ouko acknowledged the ongoing challenges in combating the drug trade, noting that despite intensified patrols and preventative measures, some individuals continue to engage in the illegal narcotics market.

Odero is set to face charges related to drug trafficking, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address this pervasive issue. The press conference was attended by key security officials, including Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia, County CIPU Head Dennis Odero, and County DCI Head Mr. Kigen, signaling a unified front in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking in Kenya, as well as the determination of authorities to crack down on such illegal activities. The collaborative efforts among various security agencies are crucial in disrupting the networks that facilitate the importation and distribution of narcotics within the country.
