Kitui County Assembly has appointed a five-member committee to investigate allegations against Finance CECM Peter Mwikya Kilonzo.

This follows a motion for his impeachment tabled by Antony Musyoka who represents Kiomo/Kyethani ward and seconded by Paul Maluki (Kithumula/Kwa Mutonga).

The motion garnered support from 32 members—exceeding the required threshold under the County Governments Act.

The special committee comprises Jeremiah Mutua Musee (Nguni Ward), Peter Kitonyo Mwanza (Mulango Ward), David Masaku Munyau (Mutomo Ward), and nominated members Fridah Maua and Jacquelyne Cate Kalenga.

They are tasked with investigating the allegations and reporting their findings to the Assembly within 10 days.

Peter Mwikya Kilonzo faces accusations of: Gross Violation of the Constitution and Laws:
He is alleged to have undermined separation of powers, public participation, and transparency as outlined in Articles 1, 10, 118, and 201 of the Constitution.

The minister, aka Tangawizi is accused of breaching provisions of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, including Sections 125, 135, 157, and 158.

He faces charges of violating leadership and ethics statutes, including the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012, and the Public Officer Ethics Act, 2003.
His accusers say he is also  incompetent for failing to comply with statutory financial obligations, including designating revenue receivers and adhering to deadlines under the Public Finance Management Act,misreporting on financial management systems and setting unrealistic revenue targets and unlawfully submitting a memorandum on the approved County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) for 2024/2025.
He is on trial also for Abuse of Office. It is alleged that he intimidates junior staff to advance personal interests  and that he solicits bribes from contractors to approve payments, contrary to the Bribery Act, 2016.
His fourth case is that of Gross Misconduct. It is alleged that he misused public office to drill boreholes on family land in Myaani village, contrary to budget allocations, that he unlawfully challenged an approved CFSP through a memorandum.
The process was led by Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya. He urged members to allow the committee adequate time to complete its investigations before the Assembly deliberates on the findings.
