Four suspects accused of carjacking, kidnapping, and robbery involving property worth over Kes. 1.5 million will remain in custody after a Kangundo court postponed their bail application hearing.

The case, presided over by Principal Magistrate Mr.Sammy Opande, has seen the suspects plead not guilty to the charges.

The court had previously set their cash bail at Kshs 5 million each. Until the new hearing date in January 2025, the accused will remain in custody at the Kangundo Police Station.

The suspects— Taxi Driver Duncan Wambua Kimeu, Dennis Ndolo Mutunga, Wambua Kinyili Mutunga, and Charles Mutinda—were arrested after evading authorities.

They are charged with robbing Titus Muteti Kilika at Kambai Junction along the Kangundo-Mwala Road in Kangundo Sub-County, Machakos County, on April 29, 2024.

The prosecution alleges that the four, acting in concert with others still at large, stole from Kilika a Samsung mobile phone, his National ID card, NHIF card, medical practice license, ATM cards from multiple banks, and cash, all valued at Kes 1,503,111.

The suspects are also accused of threatening to use violence against Kilika during the robbery.

Investigations reveal that Duncan Wambua Kimeu, who has been Kilika’s taxi driver for over 10 years, is believed to have orchestrated the attack.

Kilika, a retired  civil servant residing in Machakos, was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped while travelling with Kimeu on the day of the incident.

The case will resume next week for the hearing of the suspects’ bail application.
