Machakos County Assembly Majority Leader Mr. Jackson Ndaka today announced his resignation from the position.

Ndaka cited  frustrations with the county government’s failure to fulfill its development promises.

Mr. Ndaka, who is also the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Tala Ward, accused the Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti of  neglecting her responsibilities to the electorate, particularly in his ward.

” All the responsibilities on roads, water and health, including street lighting belong to Governor Wavinya and not any MCA. MCAs have no budgets. Budgets belong to the Governor. She received money from the central government in December and has been collecting money through the Own Source Revenue” he fumed.

Ndaka threw in the towel, saying he has remained loyal to Wavinya as Deputy Majority Leader for two and a half years without accrueing a benefit to his voters.

Earlier today, hundreds of students from Katine Technical College staged a protest  and flashed him out of  his home, expressing anger over unfulfilled promises, including the failure to repair streetlights and roads leading to the college.

The poor state of infrastructure, they said, had led to increased insecurity in the area.

Addressing the protesters, an irate Mr. Ndaka pointed fingers at Governor Wavinya Ndeti, accusing her administration of failing to deliver on its commitments to the people of Tala Ward.

“My work is oversight, and I will not accept to take liability for a government that has failed to serve its people,” said Mr. Ndaka.

He lamented that he could no longer shield a non-performing administration at the expense of his constituents.

“Enough is enough. Without mincing words, I want to tell the Governor to carry her own cross and let me perform my oversight role independently,” he said.

The MCA revealed that his loyalty to the county government over the past two years had yielded no tangible benefits for his ward. He claimed that Tala residents had been deprived of their rightful share of development projects, leaving him in a difficult position.

“It is embarrassing for me to witness my people being denied what is rightfully theirs by a government I purported to support,” he said.

Mr. Ndaka added that his decision to resign was motivated by his desire to prioritize the interests of his constituents over party loyalty.

“I have today decided to part ways with a government that does not honor its pledges. I will not leave my electorate behind with lies,” he said.

The Tala Ward MCA also highlighted several developmental challenges affecting the area, accusing the county government of ignoring repeated requests to address them.

Ndaka’s resignation marks a significant political shift in Machakos County and is likely to escalate tensions between the county assembly and the executive.

Efforts to get a response from Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s office were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
