Salvation Army Machakos Congregants Demand Ouster of Captain Over Misconduct
By Dennis Mwikya
Chaos erupted at the Salvation Army Church Machakos Citadel on Sunday as congregants staged a protest demanding the immediate transfer of Captain Benjamin Mutisya.
The worshippers accused him of mismanagement, misconduct, and ignoring their grievances.
Captain Mutisya is alleged to have mishandled church funds, sold a church vehicle without consultation, and forced members to contribute specific amounts during fundraising events.
“If you contribute less, your name is placed at the bottom of the list,” one member complained.
Tensions escalated after Sunday service when angry congregants, some armed with stones, stormed the Captain’s office, where he had locked himself in.
They chanted for his removal, rejecting his attempts to calm the crowd.
“He has sold church property without consulting us and allowed the misuse of funds on unauthorized expenses,” another member alleged.
A church elder, Mr S Masika, addressed the protesting believers and called for full accountability from the Citadel leadership.
The situation reached a dramatic climax as the congregation sang farewell songs, effectively pushing Captain Mutisya out of the church.
“You cannot lead people you refuse to listen to,” a frustrated worshipper declared. “He came here just the other day, and already, we’ve had enough.”
The incident highlights growing discontent within the church over leadership accountability and financial transparency.
The protest was the first one ever at the Machakos Citadel and it is unlikely that the congregants will entertain the leader in coming days.
