The Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya has given Machakos County Assembly Majority Leader Nicholas Kitavi Nzioka fourteen days to explain why he defied a party directive to replace a member of the County Assembly Service Board.
In a letter dated April 10, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla accused Nzioka of refusing to act on instructions issued in November 2024, which directed him to notify the County Assembly Speaker of the party’s decision to replace Felix Ngui with Wilfred Mutua.
“This failure amounts to indiscipline,” wrote Abdalla. “You have disregarded the authority of the Secretary General and undermined the party’s lawful restructuring of the Board.”
The row has since escalated, with sources revealing that Governor Wavinya Ndeti opposed the reshuffle and pressured Nzioka to resist it.
He is said to have written back to the party leadership under the Governor’s influence, citing political tensions.
Governor Ndeti is reported to have accused Speaker Anne Kiusya of orchestrating the changes, threatening impeachment proceedings against her if the directive was carried out.
“This is no longer just a party matter,” said a county assembly member familiar with the tensions. “It’s a political standoff between the Governor and the Speaker, with the Majority Leader caught in between because of his willingness to be deployed as a tool.”
The party warned that failure to offer a satisfactory explanation could lead to Nzioka’s immediate removal as Majority Leader
