A team of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Kitui on Tuesday toured Mutitu/Kaliku and Zombe/Mwitika wards as part of a countywide oversight exercise aimed at inspecting ongoing development projects funded by the County Government of Kitui.

The team, led by Deputy Majority Leader and Endau/Malalani Ward MCA, Dr. Erastus Mbuno visited several sites focusing on health, education, and water infrastructure in the expansive Kitui East Sub-County.

One of the key projects inspected was the Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital in Mutitu town.

The facility is currently under the first phase of construction at a cost of Ksh. 18 million, features perimeter walling, three entrance gates, and cabro paving from the main gate. The hospital is envisioned to become a teaching and referral facility in the region.

Dr. Mbuno and his fellow legislators lauded the progress and quality of work but emphasized the need for additional funding to expedite full operationalization of the hospital.

At the Mutitu Vocational Training Centre, the MCAs inspected a modern kitchen constructed under the County’s 2023/2024 County Local Integrated Development Plan (CLIDP). Though complete, the facility remains unequipped. The team urged relevant departments to fast-track its furnishing to benefit learners.

In Zombe/Mwitika Ward, the legislators visited the Kwa Mbithuka borehole, drilled during the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

Officials informed the team that the borehole, with an impressive yield of 23.8 cubic meters, is expected to supply water to residents in the ward and parts of neighbouring Voo/Kyamatu Ward.

The inspection marks the second day of a countywide oversight tour by Kitui MCAs.
