Editors’ Guild Team Takes Office as Constitutional Review Begins

The Kenya Editors’ Guild today ushered in a new leadership team following elections held virtually during its Special General Meeting.

The new Executive Council will serve a two-year term ending in 2027.

Zubeida Koome of KTN News was re-elected President, beating Citizen TV Anchor Yvonne Okwara. Francis Openda, a media trainer and former Trustee, is the new Vice President.

Others elected include Agnes Mwangangi of KBC (radio), Linda Bach of People Daily (print), Kenfrey Kiberenge of Nation Media Group (online), KBC Deputy Editor-in-Chief Millicent Awuor(TV) and Dr. Julius Ombui Bosire of the Technical University of Kenya (academia).
Martin Masai, Editor of The Anchor, was re-elected unopposed as Trustee along with Ruth Nesoba-  the immediate former Vice President, and Ng’ang’a Mbugua, editor of The Law Monthly.
The Guild also launched a constitutional review process, led by a nine-member committee chaired by Pamela Sittoni, Public Editor at Nation Media Group. The committee includes Dorothy Kweyu, Hassan Kulundu, Martin Masai, Arthur Okwemba, Bernard Momanyi, Eric Shimoli, Henix Obuchunju, Jacob Onyango, and Nancy Agutu.  KEG CEO Rosalia Omungo serves as Secretary.
The Guild aims to reform its constitution  to address member concerns as it strengthens support for ethical journalism and media freedom and sustainability in Kenya.
