Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has reaffirmed his intention to run for Machakos Governor in the 2027 General Election, reigniting debate over the direction of the county’s leadership.

Waita, who was accompanied by Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule and a number of cross-party MCAs opposed to Governor Wavinya Ndeti, spoke during the official reopening of Mwanyani Primary School.

The school is undergoing  reconstruction at a cost of Kes 50m from the  Safaricom Foundation.

In a pointed speech laced with accountability questions, Waita challenged the current county administration to account for resources disbursed from the national treasury.

“Where is the money going?” he asked. “Why are our hospitals under-equipped, our roads neglected, and our youth left jobless, despite billions allocated to the county?”

The remarks, delivered before a gathering of local residents, teachers, and community leaders, signaled a renewed offensive from the 2022 gubernatorial contender, who emerged second in that race.

Observers say his return to the public stage—flanked by elected leaders from both sides of the political divide—could complicate the county’s political calculus and give fresh energy to opposition voices within the assembly.

Waita’s questions come amid growing murmurs of discontent with Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration, particularly on healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.

By placing himself at the center of that debate, Waita has set the tone for a bruising political season ahead, one likely to be shaped by issues of service delivery—and by the widening gulf between campaign promises and on-the-ground realities.
