CCU Finds Kalama MCA Maeke Guilty of Disloyalty as Vacancies Loom for 8 Machakos MCAs
Machakos, October 13, 2025 —
A new front has opened in the escalating power struggle within the Machakos County Assembly after the Disciplinary Committee of Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) found Kalama Ward MCA Boniface Maeke guilty of disloyalty and deemed his defence “unsatisfactory and diversionary.”
In a determination dated October 13, 2025, the party declared that Maeke’s conduct — publicly campaigning for a rival party candidate — constituted automatic resignation under Section 14A of the Political Parties Act, 2011, as well as violation of the CCU constitution.
> “On 25th September 2025, you publicly campaigned for a rival candidate against the Party’s own nominee,” the disciplinary letter reads in part. “This action is a clear breach of Section 14A of the Political Parties Act, 2011, and the Constitution of Chama Cha Uzalendo.”
The decision follows weeks of mounting political tension after Maeke was accused of supporting Maendeleo Chap Chap’s candidate, Harrison Wambua, in a by-election where CCU had fielded its own contender.
A Broader Political Move
Political observers now interpret the CCU action as Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s latest front in her protracted fight against MCAs who stood firm in defending Speaker Anne Kiusya.
This comes as Kiusya mulls on action to take to close or declare vacant 8 seats of pro- Wavinya MCAs who missed 8 assembly sittings.
Though MCAs attempted to seal a deal to drop their case in exchange of abandoning an impeachment motion against Kiusya, the speaker’s hands remain unbound by the alleged deal, given that her opponents lack the numbers to launch an impeachment bid.
” In effect, the fate of the MCAs is still active and could be spiritted by the CCU motion where the speaker may lose one of her die-hard MCAs”, said a Machakos based lawyer who is versed with the fights in the assembly.
Maeke, one of the most vocal pro-Kiusya MCAs, was previously assaulted by county askaris at the Machakos Law Courts for resisting what he termed as executive intimidation. His case is still pending before a Machakos Court for unexplained reasons.
Adding intrigue, CCU’s Secretary General Philippe Sadja — who no doubt oversaw the disciplinary proceedings — also sits among Governor Wavinya’s 33 official advisors, further fanning speculation that the disciplinary decision carries political undertones.
Incidentally, his wife is the only CCU nominee at the assembly and will no doubt fall if CCU triggers its equally solely elected representative.
CCU Rejects Maeke’s Defence
The party faulted Maeke for misinterpreting the law and relying on unrelated case law. It dismissed his claim that other members had fraternized with rival parties, noting that “selective enforcement cannot be a shield for misconduct.”
The committee said it had verified evidence that Maeke not only attended rival rallies but also administered oaths urging voters to support the Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate — conduct deemed “open campaigning for a rival candidate.”
Vacancies May Be Declared
The CCU decision now coincides with a separate push in the Machakos County Assembly to declare seats vacant for eight MCAs who failed to attend eight consecutive sittings — among them Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka and Minority Leader Judas Ndawa.
Assembly insiders say that if both the CCU decision and the absenteeism sanctions are executed, the balance of power within the assembly could shift dramatically, potentially strengthening Speaker Kiusya’s hold while weakening the governor’s numbers.
A Battle Far from Over
The developments mark a significant turning point in Machakos politics, where party loyalty, court battles, and executive pressure are reshaping alignments daily.
Whether Maeke will lose his seat now depends on whether the Registrar of Political Parties and the County Assembly Speaker act on CCU’s determination — a move that could trigger 9 by-elections and further polarize the already divided House.
