A man died today morning after allegedly slitting his throat using a knife in Nthangu Sub-location, Wote Sub-County, Makueni County.

The act has left the entire village in shock and disbelief. Wote Location Chief Thaddeus Mutuku Makumbi confirmed the report to The Anchor, saying the tragedy unfolded as the man’s wife was within the homestead.

The man, Mutinda Mweleli,  used a sharp knife that the chief suspects to have been carefully sharpened for the act. Police recovered the knife that lay beside him as they collected the body.

According to the chief, the woman had stepped out of the main house to a detached kitchen to make tea for the family.

The 40 year old mason has not had any know mentally condition at the time of the incident.

Chief Makumbi said the family was a model one, with a well organised and irrigated farm that was admired in the entire Nthangu village.
His wife reported seeing drops of blood at the bathroom when she returned to the house. “Upon opening the bathroom, she found her husband lying on the floor with blood dripping from his open throat.
Chief Makumbi said the man, who he described as hardworking  had been living peacefully with his wife and family for years without any incidents. “The woman found him bleeding heavily in the bedroom after he slit his own neck”, the administrator added.
The man is believed to have died from excessive blood loss before help could arrive.
He urged communities to speak out whenever they face challenges in their homes without waiting till issues translate to fatalities.
