Three men accused of the murder of three young men who were attacked and burnt to death in a Machakos street have been denied bond.
Judge Josphine Mong’are said the three — Christopher Mwenda Robert, Francis Mutinda Kimeu and Dominic Muinde Paul will be tried while in custody and set December 15-16 this year as trial days.
They were committed to face murder charges before the High Court after the Magistrate Betty Koech found sufficient basis for them to answer to the charges.
The victims, Charles Mutiso, 25, Stanley Muthungu, 29, and Kennedy Katuu, 22, were attacked and burnt to death following false allegations that they had attempted to carjack a motorist who is the first accused in the case.
The attackers are believed to have been boda boda operators.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths have raised questions about the resort to mob justice and the fate of suspects subjected to violence before they can be subjected to the due process of law.
The three accused will have an opportunity to defend themselves against the murder charges before the High Court.
The case will now be closely watched as the prosecution seeks to prove what happened on the day the three young men were killed, who participated in the attack and whether the three accused persons bear criminal responsibility for the deaths.
