Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed his reservations with the pace of development at the ICT Konza City.
He regretted that there is no evidence of any activity at the site since retired President Kibaki laid the foundation stone early in the year. Kibaki laid the stone after many abortive appointments to do so and Mr Musyoka never raised a voice about the delay in his days as Kibaki’s Vice President.
Indeed sceptics saw the lst minute launch of the project as a public relations gimmick by Kibaki that one of the key pillars of Kenya Vision 2030 was still on course.
During a courtesy call on Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua, Kalonzo said the government should to protect the project from becoming yet another white elephant.
He challenged the Jubilee government to ensure the proposed Konza ICT city project is realised. He said the government should move with speed and have the mega project started in order to achieve its desired goals.
Accompanied by East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Peter Mathuki,Machakos County Women Representative Dr.Susan Musyoka and the speaker of the County Assembly Benard Mung’ata, Kalonzo welcomed both local and foreign investors to come to Machakos county and invest saying Nairobi is too congested.
Kalonzo announced that World Imminent Chinese investors will be visiting Machakos County later in the year to explore possibilities of doing business here.
Kalonzo commended Mutua for his style of doing things, terming him a trend setter who leads while others follow.
On devolution, Kalonzo said the CORD alliance stood for a full implementation of the constitution and warned any attempts to derail this spirit will be rejected.
“Wiper and its affiliates stand for a full devolution. We want a true devolution but not its shadow “, he added.
Dr.Mutua emphasized the need for unity among leaders in order to move faster in development matters. His call is seen by many as an appeal to Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama to reconcile with Dr Mutua but residents believe the former VP does not have the nerve to call the two key wiper leaders for a face to face meeting to resolve their differences.
