| Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama chats with Ex VP Kalonzo Musyoka |
FORMER Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka says is not yet finished politically. He warned those who think he is done politically that he is still strong and Kenyans will experience that as time goes on. He did not elaborate on his plans to rebound.
Mr Musyoka was Raila Odinga’s running mate in the last election and they both lost to Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.
The pair are plotting their next move that could enable them return to either parliament or the Senate and be in the steering wheel in the opposition. Under the current constitution, Presidential candidates are not allowed to run for more than one position. This means that when one fails to win the seat, there is no fall back position.
This is unlike the past constitutional dispensation where presidential candidates were also running as MPs. MPs and senators in Parliament are now contemplating quitting their positions to create room for the two leaders to vie and return to the centre of politics.
Kalonzo was addressing mourners at the burial of a daughter in law of the late Mulu Mutisya- Esther Kavindu Mutuku at Muthetheni, Machakos County.
Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who was at the burial and is reported to be ready to quit his seat for Kalonzo Muthama also echoed Kalonzo’s remarks about rebounding in politics.
Speaking at the burial, Muthama added a spin to the story by saying that Mr Musyoka would run for the presidency in the next elections.
Muthama clained that the March 4th polls were irregular and that there elections were marred with irregularities that caused Cord to lose.
“Democracy is that you win or lose and stand together for unity of the country. We were defeated in an irregular election and we are suffering in peace.“Muthama said.
He added that after Kalonzo gets a slot either in Senate of National Assembly, he will work closely with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to strengthen Cord so that they will later have enough strength to propel Kalonzo to presidency during the next elections.
Kalonzo said according to the constitution all Kenyans are in government whether one is in the team that lost or won the March 4.
Kalonzo said he will continue to work for Kenyans under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy to ensure that tribalism is dealt with in the country.
“Raila Odinga and I met president Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto in State House and we agreed that we will do our work as opposition. We are all within the government because government is not only for those who won but also the losers.”Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo added that Cord will work from the opposition side to ensure that there will be no elections done in the country that will be done under tribal lines.
“There should be no tyranny of numbers in the country because we are all the same as we make the county called Kenya. Never again should Kenyans vote along tribal lines.”he said.
The former Mwingi North MP welcomed reported intention by Muthama to resign from his
senatorial seat for him.
“If Muthama is ready to give up his Senate seat for me, I would take up the mantle and help destroy tribalism which is in the country.”he remarked.
