HERE you are. Three well educated men from Ukambani are taking charge of the management of the three counties of the region as Governors.
Prof Kivutha Kibwana, Dr Alfred Mutua and Dr Julius Malombe from Makueni, Machakos and Kitui have already taken office.
Kivutha has chosen to operate from the office previously occupied by the Makueni County Clerk after declining to occupy the third floor set aside for him by the Transitional Authority . Public Works officials said the office was unsuitable for the Governor. Kivutha prefers the ground floor or first floor and when this seemed impossible in the short run, he moved to the County Council Offices.
In Kitui, Governor Malombe is temporarily occupying offices allocated to him by Tanathi Water Services Board. This came following a compromise agreement after Tanathi obtained a court order stopping the Transitional Authority from removing the Tanathi from the office block for the occupation by the Governor.
Matters have not been any different in Machakos after Dr Mutua rejected the Town Hall offices where Municipal Council of Machakos operates from. He had been allocated the office of the Mayor but he rejected the proposal bt the Transitional Offices and has been re-adjusting the Horticultural Crop Development Authority(HCDA) cold storage facility of temporary use.
There is no doubt that voters in Ukambani chose well educated men to set up the initial county governments. What remains now is for the men and their deputies to march their education with actions
The easiest part will be the naming of the teams to run the affairs of the counties. Excitement is still high over who will be what and this is probably where the drama ends.
The most difficult part will be establishment of the county governments and delivery iof the many promises that the governors made during the campaigns. The Anchor has carried varied stories of the activities and dreams of the governors in this issue and will dutifully do so in coming days.
