Machakos University team takes over
Transition takes

place at MTTI

By Anne Wanjiku

A NEW era has been launched at the Machakos Technical Training Institute (MTTI) after it finally tranformed to Machakos University College.

MTTI era is over

It follows the appointment of a University Council headed by Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Cleopa Mailu. Prof. Godfrey Muse becomes the first Principal of the University Collage, which will be a constituent college of Kenyatta University  for the next three years.
MUC has already admitted the first batch of students but they will report to the institution in January.
A symbolic transition ceremony took place at the offices of outgoing Chief Principal Ms Mary Muthoka. The transition ceremony was witnessed by the Dr. Mailu and the outgoing MTTI chairman Prof. Peter Mbithi.
Among other witnesses in the historic event were Machakos District Commissioner Mr. Joseph Sawe, District Education Officer Mr.Richard Midamba and Town Clerk Sheikh Abdulahi among others.
Dr. Mailu described the transition of the former MTTI to a University as a big leap for Machakos County and the entire Lower Eastern region. MUC now joins the league of South Eastern University College (SEUCO) to offer university education from Machakos Town.
Other universities in the municipality are Nazarene University, St Paul University and Scott Christian University.
Dr Mailu assured the teaching and none teaching staff that the transition will be smooth. “Those with the necessary qualifications to serve in a university need not to worry because they will have a place in the college”,  he said.
Prof. Mbithi welcomed the elevation of the institution to a university, saying it will go along way in ensuring quality education for the youth in and outside the region. ”We are handing over an ISO Certified and Best Performance Contracting Award Winner Institution in the tertiary institutions category for the year 2012/13″, said Prof. Mbithi
