The final days in government of former Machakos County Attorney, Mr. James Kathili, was marked by turmoil.
A reply to the show cause letter indicates that Kathili faced challenges, among them being barred from attending cabinet meetings and denied entry to the White House, where the sessions took place. To compound the ordeal, Governor Wavinya Ndeti wrote to him demanding an explanation for his absence from three consecutive cabinet meetings.
The correspondence between Kathili and the governor exposes a dysfunctional administration. In one letter published by The Anchor, Kathili recounts being ejected from his office, with his personal and official belongings confiscated and left at the mercy of county askaris.
In response to the governor, Kathili robustly countered five allegations levelled against him. He clarified the legal framework governing county attorneys, emphasizing their role as ex-officio participants in cabinet meetings—not as cabinet members.
Kathili’s sharp retort effectively highlighted gaps in the governor’s understanding of his duties and authority, delivering a pointed critique of the accusations against him.
