Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka today publicly rebuked Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti for making an uninvited appearance at a high-stakes meeting with Wiper-affiliated Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
The meeting, convened at the party’s Command Centre, was aimed at addressing widening rifts in the Machakos County Assembly — particularly an attempted impeachment of Speaker Anne Kiusya, reportedly orchestrated by a faction allied to the Governor.
Governor Wavinya arrived unannounced toward the end of the session, just as Upper Kaewa MCA Eng. Vincent Mutie, an opponent of the impeachment motion was speaking.
Kalonzo, surprised by her presence, rhetorically asked, “Why have you come to a meeting you weren’t invited to?” When asked if she had anything to say, Wavinya shook her head to decline.
Kalonzo used the occasion to express his disappointment in the MCAs over the move to oust Speaker Kiusya.
He directed Assembly Majority Leader Nicholas Kitavi to respond without delay to a show cause letter issued by the party, citing his failure to act on changes to the house leadership.
The Wiper leader declared that the party headquarters would henceforth take over management of the Assembly’s leadership dispute.
Speaker Kiusya was not present, and Kalonzo barred any remarks directed at her in her absence.
Those in attendance left with no doubt that the party had disowned the impeachment motion.
Kalonzo also stated his opposition to a separate motion seeking the impeachment of Governor Wavinya, which had recently been tabled in the assembly.
The message from Kalonzo was unmistakable: the push to impeach Speaker Kiusya is “as dead as a dodo,” and any Wiper leader who continues down that path does so at their own peril.
