CCU: Who Should Go First? Sadja, Wife or Maeke?

CCU: Who Should Go First? Sadja, Wife or Maeke?

By Lily Munini

It is not every day that a political party writes a stinging “Notice to Show Cause” to its only elected representative in an entire county.

Mr Sadja(R), when he unveiled CCU’s candidate for Mumbuni North by-election, Mr Mbolu(L)

But Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) did just that on Thursday, 26th September 2025.
The party’s letter to Kalama Ward MCA Boniface Maeke accuses him of openly campaigning for Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Harrison Wambua in the Mumbuni North by-election — even as CCU itself fields its own candidate, Peter Mbolu.

It invokes Section 14 of the Political Parties Act like a hangman’s noose and gives Maeke seven days to explain himself.
On paper, the issue looks like a textbook case of party discipline. But scratch the surface and it’s a nest of contradictions.
One MCA, One Nomination Slot
By dint of Maeke’s lonely CCU seat in Machakos, the party earned a single nomination slot in the County Assembly.

That slot went to none other than Wanjiru Kamau, the wife of CCU Secretary General Philippe Sadja.
If CCU moves to expel Maeke, it will lose its only MCA and — under the County Assembly rules — also lose its nomination slot.

Translation: Wanjiru will be without a job, and CCU will have zero presence in the House.
Sadja, Wanjiru, Wavinya and Kiusya – A Tangled Triangle
Sadja himself is one of Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s 33 official advisers. In the Assembly, Wanjiru has been voting with Wavinya’s allies to remove Speaker Anne Kiusya. Maeke has been voting in the opposite corner — defending Kiusya.
So when CCU invokes “party loyalty clauses” against Maeke, many are asking: is it about discipline or about rearranging the chessboard? Can they really enforce party discipline in the prevailing contradictions?

The Big Question

If CCU is serious about punishing anybody, let alone party disloyalty, then it’s only fair to ask: Who should go first — Sadja, Wanjiru or Maeke?
After all, Maeke’s alleged crime is campaigning for another party. But Sadja works directly for a Wiper governor, and he occasionally writes praises for her party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. And Wanjiru routinely votes with Wavinya’s bloc against her own party MCA- who is a high ranking defender of Speaker Kiusya.
The Stakes
If Maeke is expelled and the nomination slot is lost, CCU’s footprint in Machakos politics will shrink to zero overnight.

The party’s only showcase of grassroots presence will vanish, and the Secretary General’s wife will be out of the Assembly.
In the meantime, the party has until October 3rd to decide whether it wants to be remembered for enforcing discipline — or for firing the one person keeping its name alive in the Machakos County Assembly.
Either way, Machakos politics just got another headline-grabbing subplot.
