Advocates in Machakos on Friday joined their counterparts across the country in peaceful demonstrations to mourn and demand justice for two lawyers who died under mysterious circumstances.

Led by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Machakos Chapter Chairperson, Gladys Gichuki, the advocates marched through Machakos Town, carrying placards and blowing trumpets and whistles in an unmistakable protest.
The protest was a clear message of a gathering in anger, grief, solidarity and a shared commitment to justice for the slain colleagues.
Speaking during the demonstration, Gichuki said the legal fraternity was mourning the deaths of advocates Esther Wairimu and Edward Muthee, whose lives were cut short under circumstances that raise serious questions and demand credible answers.
“As investigations continue, the circumstances surrounding these killings have created deep concern within the legal profession and among the public. If these acts were intended to silence, intimidate or instil fear in advocates carrying out their constitutional duty, then they constitute a direct attack on the rule of law and the administration of justice,” she said.
Gichuki added that an attack on a lawyer is an attack on every Kenyan’s constitutional right to legal representation, a fair hearing and access to justice.
“Advocates must be able to discharge their professional duties without fear, threats, harassment or violence,” she said.
The LSK Machakos Chapter called on investigative agencies to conduct prompt, independent, transparent and credible investigations into the two deaths, bring those responsible to justice, and keep the public regularly updated on the progress of the investigations.
The advocates vowed to continue pushing for accountability, saying the safety of legal practitioners is essential to safeguarding the country’s justice system.
