A multi-agency team conducted a thorough inspection today at Mukuku village, Mbooni East, following the landing of rocket debris on December 30.

The debris incident has sparked public safety concerns and property damage reports.
Officials from the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority  and Ministry of Health revisited the site, using specialized scanners to collect shrapnel, grass, sticks, and other vegetation suspected to have come into contact with the fallen object. Their goal was to assess potential environmental contamination and radiation levels in the area.
Addressing the media at the site, the officials assured residents of their safety, confirming that preliminary tests had shown no harmful radiation emissions. They emphasized that no immediate health risks were posed to those who had come into contact with the debris.
The investigation comes amid the circulation of a controversial document allegedly from the Kenya Space Agency, demanding $100 billion in compensation from the Indian government over the rocket debris incident.
However, KSA has disowned the document, clarifying that it did not originate from the agency. Major Aloyce Were of KSA informed The Anchor that the agency’s leadership plans to issue a comprehensive statement to clarify the matter further.
The document, which appears to blame India for the debris fall, has raised fears of a potential diplomatic row between the two nations. Kenya and India have long maintained cooperative relations, and the authenticity of the compensation demand is now under investigation.
The debris fell in Mukuku village on December 30, triggering emergency responses. Initial assessments raised concerns about risks to human safety, property damage, and possible environmental contamination due to hazardous materials.
As investigations continue, residents of Mbooni East remain hopeful for clarity while beginning to rebuild their lives after the unsettling event.
The Anchor will continue monitoring developments on this story.
