Former Machakos Finance Executive Catherine Mutanu has sent an emotional farewell WhatsApp message to members of the Machakos County Executive.

Mutanu is thanking colleagues she identifies by their names or titles- who stood by her as her dismissal unfolded and at the same time reminding ministers she classifies as “others”celebrating her exit that public office is temporary.
The message, obtained by The Anchor and independently confirmed by three recipients who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss internal ministers’ communication, was sent on Monday afternoon after Mutanu’s removal from office by Governor Wavinya Ndeti in the morning.
Mutanu began by thanking Governor Wavinya Ndeti for the opportunity to serve.
“Thank you Madam Governor for having given me a platform to work,” she wrote.
She expressed appreciation to Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi for what she described as his good leadership.
To County Secretary Dr. Muya Ndambuki, she wrote:
“You have shown the other side of you. Thank you for checking on me regularly.” Dr Ndambuki delivered the dismissal letter to her as she waited to enter the Assembly chamber for her impeachment proceedings.
Mutanu also thanked fellow County Executive Committee Member Consolata( Mutisya) for the emotional support extended to her and family.
“Thanks for wishing me well and crying with me and my family,” she wrote.
She paid tribute to Health CECM Kasivu, thanking him for mentoring her, checking on her welfare and visiting her during the difficult period.
To CECM Munyaka and her husband Dr Victor Munyaka, she expressed gratitude for their encouragement and concern, thanking them for regularly checking on her.
But it was her closing remarks that appeared directed at colleagues she addreses as “Others”: “Those who are celebrating… Kya Mutanu nikivikie na kyathela. The County Government is an institution.”
The Kamba phrase loosely translates to: “Mutanu’s turn has come and gone.”
The statement appeared to carry a broader message that positions in government are temporary and that no public office holder should assume permanence.
The farewell message offers a glimpse into the personal relationships within the Machakos County Executive following Mutanu’s dramatic dismissal, suggesting that while some colleagues rallied around her, others viewed her removal differently.
Mutanu has not publicly commented on the contents of the message, and it remains unclear whether she intends to challenge her dismissal through legal means, like her colleagues who are locked in court battles seeking compensation for wrongful dismissal.
