There comes a time when purpose calls louder than personal comfort.
And then there comes a time when every politician posts exactly that unmistakable sentence.

Dr Andrew Mutava Mulwa (Pictured above) has now joined that distinguished club.
After prayer, reflection, consultations with family, friends and “the people of Makueni”, he has announced he is walking away from a comfortable public service career in pursuit of… well… something many call the dirty game.
What exactly?
That is the question.
Governor?
Senator?
Member of Parliament?
Member of County Assembly?
His statement is beautifully written. It speaks of service, humility, courage, faith and the future. It promises to listen, unite and deliver. It thanks God. It thanks the people. It commits to defending devolution.
Everything is crystal clear.
Except the job application.
One cannot fault Dr Mulwa’s credentials. His curriculum vitae has travelled more than many politicians. He served as Makueni’s Health CECM, graduated to become CEO of KEMSA, and later found his way back to the Ministry of Health.
That is respectable mileage in public service.
Politics, too, is not exactly foreign territory.
After all, Cabinet and county appointments rarely fall from heaven. They are usually delivered through the earthly ministry called politics.
And Dr Mulwa once demonstrated he could navigate those waters when he appeared before Parliament during the proceedings that sought to remove then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Whether one agreed with his testimony or not, he was not merely discussing medicine. He had entered the political theatre, where prescriptions are written in actions or speeches rather than prescriptions pads.
Now he appears ready for a role with even more microphones.
The beauty of his timing is that every elective seat in Makueni will soon be vacant at the same time.
It is like arriving at a buffet before the guests.
Governor?
Possible.
Senator?
Also possible.
MP?
Certainly.
MCA?
Well… politics has humbled greater men.
The challenge is that Makueni is already developing a healthy population of people who are “ready to serve”. If readiness alone won elections, the county would require four governors, seven senators and thirty MPs.
Ultimately, the voters will ask questions more difficult than those found in a job interview.
Why this office?
Why now?
What distinguishes you from the rest of the field?
And perhaps the simplest question of all:
“Doctor, where exactly are you applying?”
Until that answer arrives, Makueni can only admire the enthusiasm while waiting for the destination.
Because purpose may indeed call louder than personal comfort.
But sooner or later, purpose must also reveal the address.
