Three minors charged with burning down a dormitory at Machakos School have each been released on a bond of KSh 400,000.

Machakos Chief Magistrate Dorcas Endoo

Machakos Chief Magistrate Dorcas Endoo also granted them release terms of one surety of a similar amount, or an alternative cash bail of KSh 100,000.
Ms. Endoo, set the bond terms after they were formally charged with arson and malicious damage to property. They pleaded not guilty to the twin charges.
The prosecution alleges that on June 19, 2026, at about 12.35 a.m., the three jointly and unlawfully set fire to the Musau Junior Dormitory at Machakos School in Machakos Sub-County.
The fire is said to have destroyed the dormitory and other school property valued at approximately KSh 6,680,280.
The minors also face a charge of malicious damage to property contrary to Section 339(1) of the Penal Code.
In line with Kenyan law protecting the identities of children in conflict with the law, The Anchor is withholding the names of the three accused and referring to them only as minors.
The case had initially been deferred after one of the accused failed to attend court, prompting the court to order that he be produced and that all three be provided with pro bono legal representation.
The prosecution is expected to call at least eight witnesses, including school administrators, staff members and police investigators, as it seeks to prove the case against the three minors.
