Chelugui, 3 governors meet
to end Nol-Turesh water woes

Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation Simon Chelugui on Tuesday held a consultative meeting with governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado) and Machakos deputy governor Francis Maliti to resolve the Nol-Turesh water conflict piting the three counties.
The meeting sought to understand the cause of the dismal performance of Nol-Turesh/ Loitokitok Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (NOLWASCO) and initiate a workable roadmap to revive its performance.
The company is tasked with bulk water supply to parts of Makueni, Kajiado and Machakos along the Northern Corridor.
Governor Kibwana discouraged water wars and misunderstandings, warning that such would undermine the integration, unity and cohesion within the three neighboring counties.
“The three lower eastern counties should mutually reconstitute the ownership of NOLWASCO. Adequate consultations, candid and honest discussion will enable us revive NOLWASCO and provide reliable water services to our people,” he said.
Governor Lenku reiterated his commitment to a peaceful neighborliness of the three counties and for a just and better performing Nolturesh water company.
Cabinet Secretary for devolution Eugene Wamalwa also attended the meeting.
He emphasized on dialogue to curb the challenges facing the company and the water crisis in the three counties.
