Governor Ngilu’s visit came
as residents of Mutha area were burying the remains of the latest victim of
insecurity where camel herders from Garissa and Tana River cross over to Kitui
and kill innocent herdsmen protesting the grazing on their land.

Over 50 Kitui herders have
so far been killed by invading pastoralists who drive huge herds of camels into
pastures within Kitui County. Cries of local residents and their leaders have
been ignored for a long time and tensions are rising between the communities
living along the common boundary.

Yesterday, Governor Ngilu
met Mr Boinet and told the IG that the slaughter in Kitui must be brought to an
end. “This needs to come to an end once and for all. We need the communities rearing their camels to respect the rights of others, the same way Kitui people respect
rights of other people” She highlighted the areas worst affected as Musenge, Kivuiyo,
Kyeni, Dr Anaan, Inyali, Ikandani and Ingo in Mutha. In Kitui East, the most
affected areas are, Engamba, Ngwaniwa and Imagination which has the highest
numbers of casualties.

Mr Boinet assured the Governor that peace will be restored in the areas which include maintaining peace and ensuring that invading communities from Garissa and Tana River return to their areas.
